2 days later and still no news about the whereabouts of the Van Gogh painting.
The Egyptian Minister of Culture announced that the painting was recovered then he said it wasn't and to sum things up, I think it was an INSIDE job. Someone who knew exactly how things worked (or did not work) in the museum & took the chance to steal the painting.
Here are some facts about the robbery:
1) There is an appointed guard for the painting round the clock while the
museum is opened BUT he took a prayer break and no one replaced him.
2) The painting is placed in a special room with railings and the
painting was attached with strings connected to movement censors that would
give an alarm if the painting was moved, unfortunately, the censors were not
working.
3) There are 43 cameras in the museum that could have caught the thieves
on tape but guess what 7 only were working.
4) Only 11 people visited the museum on that day, so how hard is it to
capture the thieves?
Truth is, the painting is
probably safe now in the basement of an art collector who appreciates this kind
of artwork and would give it the attention and care that it deserves, Who
knows may be the painting would 'mysteriously' appear after a year or two AGAIN in the garbage in some other country.
