When you’re done shopping at Souq Al-Mubarakiyah and feeling hungry you would most definitely be attracted by the aroma of freshly baked fatayerI at ‘Bawabat Al-Shamiya’ restaurant. If you pay them a visit you would be in for a treat as you can choose from a variety of freshly baked fatayer made to order. From the usual plain cheese and labna to the more diverse mixed eggs, sausage & cheese pizza-like fatayer. They also have shawarma especially in the afternoon. The place is clean and the best thing is you can see the chef while preparing your order through the glass then it goes straight to the hot oven and voila enjoy.

While you’re waiting for your order, which may take a few minutes when the place is busy especially in the morning as people flock for breakfast or brunch, you can spend the time examining the pictures hung on the walls, which are mostly about Kuwait in the olden days with accompanying pictures of Kuwait rulers from HRH Sheikh Abdulla Al-Salem Al-Sabah all the way to the present HRH Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. There are also pictures of old Kuwaiti artists like Abdul-Hussain Abdul-Ridha among others.

Last time in there we ordered a cheese and an egg fatayer and they were just delicious. The cheese had melted perfectly & was not too salty and the egg was fresh & so tasty.
